In the United States, any disease, illness, disorder, or condition affecting fewer than 200,00 is considered rare.
Both the European Union and World Health Organization (WHO) define a rare disease as affecting fewer than 1 in 2,000 people.
There are over 10,000 rare diseases, and it’s estimated that about 10% of the world’s population has a rare disease diagnosis.
